🌷 May Makerss Box — Tulips in an Oval Hoop
We are staying with flowers for this month’s Makerss project. These needle felted tulips are semi 2D and create a beautifully delicate picture.
The background is a fine cotton ticking fabric in soft pink stripes, and the oval embroidery frame adds a lovely sense of proportion and sophistication.
You will receive enough wool to make two or three tulips in the same colourway rather than each in different colours. This means you will have wool left over — so why not add an extra frame and piece of fabric to create a second picture?
Each tulip petal is first felted individually onto water-soluble paper, then the flower is constructed and felted onto the fabric while retaining some of its 3D form.
Did you know tulips are ancient flowers? They originally grew wild in Central Asia before spreading to the Western world. The name “tulip” comes from the Turkish word for turban, as the flower heads resemble them.
